Rennie~~ Sometimes, the macho attitude that we carry, does not allow us to grieve properly in public. I don’t cry at weddings or funerals, but Amazing Grace played on the bag pipes will do me in every time. I found it hard to express to this friend or his wife, or to anyone how I felt, so I had to write the poems.

Teej~~ Thank you for the compliment. It is strange how a couple of spoken sentences, can completely shatter a heart, and a life. I have now been on both sides of the shattering, and it is always a very raw experience, painful experience. But….it does supply some good material for the poets.

Kindred~ A very hard-ass'd USMC officer once bent over backwards to find a copy of "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes and get it to me when he learned it was one of the few things that could reduce me to tears in those settings. There may have been two messages in that gift :), but I am grateful for the tape he sent. When able, I don't miss Highland Games just for the bagpipes, where they always leave me feeling I've been pulled back inside the wire from some forgotten moor and landmined grief again. There was no mistaking your words were heartfelt. I still have many of my own that need to be said in tributes or closings. Thanks much for sharing those ..... Rennie

Only in America...do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place...
Only in America...do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight...
Only in America...are the least useful professions (professional athletes, movie actors & entertainers) paid so disproportionally much compared to people with normal jobs...
Only in America...do people buy domestic brand tires, because they want to "buy American," and install them on their imported cars...
Only in America...the budgets for advertising non-essential items, like soft drinks, exceed the economies of many third-world nations...
Only in America...do we use the word politics to describe the process so well. Poli in latin meaning many and tics meaning blood sucking creatures...
