The Blender Survey Question

Which decade was most romantic (and why) - 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s?
TJ Holland PERSONALLY: The '90's ~ Because I was older and wise enough to know how to enjoy things. ie: more self-confidence, less reliance on others, far less desperation to be loved and more ability to love myself, a knowledge of what I really wanted and truly needed, the courage to be sexy and risky and nasty and sweet, the patience to let things unfold on their own and the wisdom to dump the loosers.

SOCIALLY: The '50's ~ Because people were sweet back then. They had a conscience and treated people kindly. Guys got nervous, but asked anyway, girls got brave but blushed anyway. Holding hands made a heart beat faster. A kiss on the lips was earthshaking. A ring was commitment and you meant it. He tried real hard to set up a good life to share with whomever he'd marry BEFORE he met her. She made sure she didn't share EVERYTHING with anybody but the guy she'd marry. Things meant something.
Misti Superficially I would have to say the '50s because "I Only Have Eyes For You" makes me crazy and the women went around in red lipstick and tight sweaters and skirts and the guys were all like John Travolta in "Grease." Then again, I wish I had seen the Doors at the Whiskey in L.A. I would have been Jim Morrison's groupie from HELL. And I would have loved to have seen Hendrix work his magic at Woodstock and Joplin and Redding work theirs at Monterrey Pop. I would have been a really good hippie chick. There is nothing romantic about the 70s. My mom and dad had sex. I was conceived and born. I had a crush on Mr. Rogers and that chubby guy who played the banjo on "Hee Haw." Oh, and Captain Kangaroo. I found father figures on TV and felt those oh so icky Electra-ish feelings. The 80s were good. I fell in love with a guy named Matt and wrote stories about us in which he was King Matthew and I was Queen Velvet. I lost my virginity and met Chris and a few other choice specimens in the 90s. Yeah, definitely the 90s. The most horrible, beautiful decade of my life. The theme song would have to be "Regulator" by Warren G. Oops. Chris just told me I met him in 2000. That's right. And we got married that year. Well, the 00s aren't a choice.
jimmyallgrownup I'm going to have to venture a bit outside of the box on this one, O Captain My Captain Kirk . . . My decade would be the 90's . . . the 1590s, that is. Why? Three words, compadres: men in tights. Plus you had that Renaissance-thing going on - the grand flowering of the arts, the birth of modern science, Europe's freeing itself from a Dark Ages imposed by the organized religion of the time (God is love. Yeah, right) . . . oh, and a whole lot of cute men in tights.
Kirk Since all romance is subjective, I'd have to say the 90s. It started with my first and last great simple romance with the German chick, had a middle filled up with my huge unrequited love (see the Rosetta chronicles...) and ended up very happily with Mo.

But beyond that, I'm fond of the 90s. I like how much trouble they had working out their identity to begin with, kind of ended up with a mishmash, and then there was that terrific economic boom (that we're still recovering from.)

Every decade has its romantic cliches, from the 40s GIs and their sweethearts, to the 50s sweet and innocent teeny boppers, to the 60s hippy freelove, to the 70s disco nights, to the 80s punk and new wave trying to make sense of a Reagan world...
looking4sara In retrospect, I believe the 90's had to have been the most romantic of the last half of the century. In all fairness, I lived the majority of my life in the 90's and have met the girls of myy life in the time described. The younger gen in the 90's had a little problem w/ disillusionment and all we had to fall back on was our own sincerety(?) and emotions. IN a decade in which we had no faith in our government, institutions of learning, faith, and community we had to find a dependency; love. That's just what I think, I could and probably am wrong.
