No way!

As a society...probably so. As an individual, no. Despite all the baggage and residue from heartaches past and failed relationships, I am very optimistic about my future with Michael. It's just a matter of finding someone you are truly in sync with.

I think cynicism is a protection mechanism... and if you want the true/romantic/lasting love you probably have to let down the barriers eventually to let the real you be seen. The exception (that proves the rule) may be two cynics who understand each other perfectly - without having dropped the cynicism, they already know what lies beneath. : )

It's like life in general; no matter how many times you fall down you need to keep getting up and get back on the bicycle after a little rest from the bruising.

i'm cynical toward life not love. i choose to be that way.

We're cynical. More and more as time passes. But not TOO cynical for true/romantic/lasting love. It still exists, and always will.

Personally, no. As a society, yes. We are bombarded with images of casual, meaningless sex, anything innocent and genuine always seems to pale in comparision with that. I think most people think that true love is an antiquate notion - best left to the romance novelists and adolescent girls. I believe it exists and if you are lucky enough to find it and recognize it, it will flourish. If you close your heart or embrace the relationship ideals presented by the media - you're lost.

Cynical people view things...cynically. Those who aren't don't.
